Server Technology, voted by our employees 1st Place Best Places to Work, is looking for a Firmware Engineer to design, develop, implement, and maintain firmware for electro-mechanical subcomponents in intelligent power distribution systems. 

As a member of a small team, this entry-level/mid-level position the Firmware Engineer will deliver embedded software from conception to release for new embedded subcomponent microcontrollers in our intelligent power distribution products.  The Firmware Engineer will ensure that all assigned duties are performed quickly, efficiently and according to established departmental and company policies, procedures and goals.

Typical job duties:

  • Design, develop, and maintain firmware used in embedded, network enabled, power control products.
  • Document designs, source code, test requirements, and processes.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team on designs.
  • Provide support to test and manufacturing engineers.
  • Participate in code reviews and specification conformance testing as defined by the selected software development methodology.
  • Promote positive company user relations by projecting a courteous, helpful attitude and assisting employees when appropriate.
  • Display original thinking and creativity; Meet challenges with resourcefulness; Generate suggestions for improving work; Develop innovative approaches and ideas.
  • Display willingness to make decisions; Exhibit sound and accurate judgment; Make timely decisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong C programming and debugging skills.

Skills Used or Acquired on the Job:

  • Understanding of communication protocols (e.g. I2C, SPI, USB, UART).
  • Experience with 8051, ARM, PIC microcontrollers and development environments.
  • Experience with source code control and bug tracking systems (e.g. SVN, TRAC).
  • Experience with compilers and JTAG debuggers.
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams to develop hardware and firmware design specifications as well as subcomponent functional test requirements.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups within the Company.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently.
